SPECIALTY CONTACT LENSES
Keratoconus is an eye disease in which the cornea of your eye progressively grows into a cone shape and starts to cause a distortion in your vision. Glasses often cannot provide the clear vision needed for individuals to be functional. There are special contact lenses such as rigid gas permeable, hybrid and scleral lenses that can provide a dramatic improvement in vision. If the cornea has progressed to a point in which scar tissue prevents vision improvement with these contact lenses, a corneal transplant may be advised. Following this surgery, specialty contact lenses can be refit to the eye to further improve visual acuity.
Prosthetic contact lenses can often be used to provide a more natural looking appearance to eyes that have been disfigured from ocular injuries.
